Turning “lawns2meadows” at Amersham Hospital

In November we held a ‘Wild Gym’ or ‘Rake & Cake’ at Amersham Hospital meadowsAmersham Hospital has asked Wild Amersham to turn its lawns into wildflower meadows. Wild Amersham and NHS volunteers spent a morning raking off fallen leaves to ensure they do not enrich the soil (most wildflowers do not like rich soil). We also seeded a bit of Yellow Rattle in the very grassy areas. Yellow Rattle is a pretty plant that feeds on grassroots, weakening vigorous grass creating space for wildflowers to grow. We used the leaves to create nice piles for creatures to cuddle up in in winter. We also had some nice cake! If you’d like to volunteer in nature, please go to this link.
