Shop second hand and donate, reuse, re-wear and restyle during Second Hand September – and beyond!
WHAT IS SECOND HAND SEPTEMBER?
Second Hand September is a campaign run by Oxfam to encourage people to buy only second hand items for the month of September.
When you shop and donate second hand, you reduce waste, take a stance against climate change, and help create a fairer world – and you do it all while looking fabulous.
Each year, people joining this sustainable style challenge inspires so many more people to shop in a way that is kinder to people and planet.
WHY SECOND HAND SEPTEMBER?
The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of annual global carbon emissions, more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. When a new pair of jeans is made, an estimated 16.2kg of CO2 is emitted – the equivalent of driving over 58 miles in a car.
So, by recirculating our clothes – buying, wearing and donating second hand – we can help to reduce the demand for new clothes. And this in turn helps to reduce the damage to our planet.
