River Misbourne Walk – 15th February

This event has now happened

Everyone is welcome to this free guided walk along the river Misbourne.

On the day Allen Beechey, Project Manager at the CCSP will lead the walk and talk about river ecology and restoration. He will talk about the special nature of the ecology of chalk streams, the threats they face and what is being done to protect them.

This will be an easy walk, however the ground can be wet and slippery this time of the year, so come prepared with sturdy shoes or wellies and dress appropriately for the weather. Feel free to bring snacks and a hot drink to warm up.

Buy your tickets on eventbrite – we ask for a small donation to cover Wild Amersham’s costs and help it do more for local nature.

This event is organised by the Chilterns Chalk Streams Project (CCSP) and Wild Amersham, part of Sustainable Amersham. We are a local community group that encourages local people to appreciate and protect local nature. We organise nature events and help restore local habitats.

How it went

Despite very cold and wet weather, 25 people turned up for a walk along the Misbourne.

Allen Beechy had lots of interesting information to impart, about the rarity and nature of chalk streams, the history of the Chiltern Chalk Streams project, the plants and animals that live in the Misbourne, and the threats faced by this precious habitat.

It was particularly exciting to be given a live demonstration of riverfly monitoring, and to find out how many different invertebrates live in the gravel, even in the midst of winter!
