This event has now happened
Repair Cafés encourage people to understand how to repair and maintain things. Our next repair cafe will be on Saturday 2nd November from 10am to 1pm at St Michaels Church, Amersham.
We will also have general, electrical and sewing repairers ready to tackle your broken possessions. Read about how the Repair Cafe works.
Come towards the start of the session if possible, to get your repair in the queue! (maximum 2 per person).
We look forward to seeing you! If you can’t make our bimonthly cafe, there are lots of other local Repair Cafés that run on different days.
How it works.
- Doors open at 10am, and you fill in a repair form at the entrance desk and have a look at the house rules.
- Because the demand for repairs is usually high, we ask that you only bring two repairs per person. If there are a lot of repairs, we may have to stop admitting new items before the Café closes, so it is better to come along earlier in the session.
- Take the form to the Repair check-in desk who will allocate you to the appropriate repairer. There may be a queue, so you will be given a repair number showing your place in it.
- It is hard to estimate how long repairs take, so you can enjoy the Cafe part of the event and have a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of home-made cake while you wait for your turn.
- Chat to the Sustainable Amersham team! Find out about waste and recycling, stock up on Household refills, or browse the free magazines.
- When your repair number comes up, you take your item to the repairer and sit with them while they work on it so that they can ask questions and explain what they are doing. It’s a very interesting part of the process.
- Please return the completed repair form to the exit desk once the repairer has finished, whether your item has been fixed or not!
Our friendly volunteers will guide you through this process. We don’t as for payment, but if you can donate this all helps to keep the project running.
Send us an email to find out more about how to be a repairer or support the event, or pop in and say hello!
What happened at this event
This was held on Saturday 2nd November,
We had 41 items brought in, 22 were fixed, 2 had advice given, and 8 were not repairable. The remaining items ran out of time to be seen, as it was a busy morning, and we signposted people to other local repair cafes.
Thosw who atteneded really enjoyed it and found the experience really valuable:
“I had priceless service – my item was new, and broken. It would have gone to landfill without your help as it was too expensive to fix commercially – Thank you!”
