Repair Cafe and Seed Swap – 3rd May

10am to 1pm, St Michaels Church, HP65DR

A repair cafe is a place where you can bring your broken items for free, while our volunteer repairers work their magic to bring them back to life! Repairing items instead of throwing them away keeps unwanted items away from landfill, and reduces the need for new purchases which has such a negative impact on the planet.

We can do electrical repairs, glue, sew and perform carpentry on an amazing variety of items – our repairers will accept a challenge of almost anything! Not everything can be repaired, but it is good to know that you have tried.

We currently can’t repair:

  • white goods (for example, washers or dryers)
  • microwaves

You can also bring and recycle old electrical cables (for example, power leads and old ethernet cables). Cables contain valuable materials like copper, aluminum, and even gold, which can be extracted and reused, reducing the need to mine new resources. Our recycling team will also be on hand to answer any questions you have about how to recycle waste responsibly.

We’re also running a seed and sapling swap at the event, where you can get ready for spring by finding, sharing and swaping seeds for an optional donation. Sharing seeds is more cost effective, and reduces the cost of plants being transported for sale in garden centres.

How the repair cafe works

On the day:

  • doors open at 10am – come early to avoid the queues
  • bring a maximum of 2 things to repair
  • our friendly volunteers will greet you let you know what to do

We have a lot of activities on hand while you wait, including:

  • a free cup of coffee or tea and a slice of homemade cake
  • the opportunity to chat to our team and earn more about sustainability and recycling
  • our seed swap, where you can find, share and swap seedlings and seeds for an optional donation
  • a selection of free magazines you can browse

The Repair Cafe is free but if you can make a donation it will help us cover our costs.

Get involved!

Send us an email if you would like to help us either as a repairer or as a meet and greeter – or pop in and say hello!
