Recycling day at Amersham Market

On September 21st 2021 the Sustainable Amersham team were once again at the Tuesday market in Amersham-on-the-Hill. To celebrate National Recycling Week and Great Big Green Week we made our focus “recycling and how to get it right.” We were accompanied by Gemma Green from FCC Environment who was able to advise consumers on what materials can be recycled locally and to answer any tricky questions.

We also had boxes labelled with specific packaging materials to support Terracycle in their quest to recycle with manufacturers. The local collector for Amersham is Tamsin Lillie and her family who have a collection point at their home in Sycamore Close. All funds raised by the collections support the charity ‘Medic to Medic’ which helps train medical students in Malawi.

The full list of items they can collect is listed on our website. Some items are:

• Crisp packets

• Toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes and dental floss containers

• Cheese packets

• Biscuit wrappers

• Confectionery wrappers

• Laundry detergent bags and tubs

We were able to chat to Amersham residents about how we can reduce the amount of packaging in our daily life, especially plastics, and how to ensure the packaging we are left with is recycled as much as possible.
