In partnership with Wild Amersham, join local botanist Karen van Oostrum for a gentle walk along the Misbourne chalk stream, through St Mary’s churchyard and down the High Street of Old Amersham. Discover the plants on your doorstep, learn how the landscape and local industries have changed over time, and compare historic images with what you see today. This is the last of four seasonal walks along the same route.
Each walk follows the same route through Old Amersham, once a season, so across the year you can watch how the plants, the chalk stream and the High Street itself change from one visit to the next.
Karen van Oostrum has a PhD in wheat genetics and was previously Head of Education at Cambridge University Botanic Garden. She now teaches botany courses and hosts school visits with the Field Studies Council at FSC Amersham Field Centre, trains volunteer surveyors for the Chilterns National Landscape’s Tracking the Impact project, and tutors on the Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland’s Identiplant course.
