People, Planet, Pastry

Fancy a cuppa and a pastry with a bunch of friendly people and a bit of a chat about the state of the world?
Sustainable Amersham launched in January its first People Planet Pastry event at Jester cafe (close to Amersham station).

Anyone could turn up to this free event and get to know people in the community at the same time as having some stimulating conversations about the beautiful nature that surrounds us and the things that we can do to make sure that we protect the environment we have to live in. Sustainable Amersham volunteers were also around to introduce some of our work, but more importantly hear about what our neighbours care for and how we can make it better!

We were supported in this initiative by the amazing people of Small 99 and their People Planet Pastry movement, providing us with additional publicity and some funding for free coffees and pastries.
In our first event a dozen people had very lively conversations that ranged from what is the most sustainable pastry to the most serious theme of climate justice.

Community events give something precious to each one of us. The younger generation exchanged ideas on how to get their careers in sustainability started while those of us with kids talked about how plastic toys end up taking over our lives and living rooms. Others still considered how much money and waste we would save if we had a library of things in Amersham. For everyone, getting a listening ear regarding our worries about how our environment is being impacted is as helpful as a breath of fresh air.

With last month’s event being such a success, our plan is to continue organising events most months, including the sister event People Planet Pint. Think the same but with a beer at hand!
Have a look at Sustainable Amersham’s website for our Calendar with everything that is coming!

Our next event will be on the 16th of April.

Note that even if the event in Eventbrite refers to “local businesses” this event is open to all. Families are more than welcome!
