Did you know the UK is home to thirteen native amphibian and reptile species, nine of which are here in the Chilterns? Unfortunately, many of these species are in decline. Understanding where they live is essential for their conservation. You can help find out!
We’re offering a free training course that will introduce you to local amphibians and reptiles and teach you monitoring techniques. You can also find out about how you can get involved in amphibian and reptile conservation efforts in Amersham and the Chilterns, such as:
-
- pond surveys
-
- artificial refugia monitoring
-
- toad patrols
-
- great crested newt surveys
If you’re interested book a place on eventbrite – this event is open to anyone aged 16 and over. Whether you’re eager to help monitor amphibians and reptiles or simply curious about the project, we’d love to meet you!
There is parking at the Amersham Band but please walk, bike or take public transport if you can. The Band is wheelchair accessible but some of the site is bumpy. Hot drinks and biscuits will be provided.
If you’re interested in pursuing a Great Crested Newt Licence or have a site you’d like monitored (pond or artificial refugia), please email Claudia Bernardini before the project begins.
This event is organized by the Chiltern Chalk Streams Project in collaboration with Bucks Amphibian and Reptile Group and Wild Amersham.
How it went
It was really good. The event was joined between Wild Amersham, the Bucks Amphibian and Reptile Group,, the Chilterns Chalk Streams project and Amersham Band. 19 people attended (including some from London!) and learned about different types of reptiles and amphibians and saw some live animals. They also learned how to monitor them.
“I thought it was really interesting – I could do amphibians all day”
