Learn about garden birds (and take part in the Big Garden Bird Watch) – 25th January

This event has now happened

Always wondered what that little brown bird in your garden is, or would you like to get to know more about the birds you see on your feeders every day? Join our online talk to learn about garden birds, hear more about their interesting lives and loves & how you can support them.

The talk will be given by Simon Nichols, a very engaging and knowledgeable bird expert whose camera will be aimed at his own feeders during the talk, so there’s guaranteed to be some live action!

Perhaps you will be inspired to take part in the Big Garden Bird Watch, held this very weekend – from 24 to 26 January 2025 – to help monitor national trends and protect birds.

Get your tickets on eventbrite. Attending this talk is free, but if you can make a donation (even if small), it would help the work of Prestwood Nature and Wild Amersham to protect and restore local nature.

This event is organised by Prestwood Nature and by Wild Amersham @ Sustainable Amersham. Both are local community groups that encourage local people to appreciate and protect local nature through nature events and by helping to look after local habitats.

With thanks to James Ford for the photo of the Chaffinch.

How it went

This event went very well. 25 people attended (adults and children) and enjoyed learning about ten common garden birds, interspersed with live action on speaker Simon’s impressive bird feeders!

There were lots of good questions and people were inspired to take part in the Big Garden Bird Watch organised each year by the RSPB which uses citizen science to monitor how birds are faring in the UK.
