10:00am to 1:00pm – St Mary’s School, SL9 8JQ W3W: ///itself.cloth.object
We need your help to prune and support a native hedge around the large playing field of St Mary’s school.
We have 200 native hedgelings to plant, thanks to the generous donation of the Woodland Trust. We also have several larger native trees we can plant.
We are being supported by parents, staff and children from the school but we need the support of volunteers. This will involve potentially digging holes, or pruning hedges.
This will be a great boost to nature and sustainability in this area because native hedges create nature corridors and shelter and food for all sorts of insects, mammals, birds etc. They also absorb carbon and stabilise soil and look lovely. This hedge will also provide shelter and educational interest for the school children.
What to expect
On the day, we will provide tools, but we’d appreciate it if you could provide:
- spade
- secateurs
- gloves
- loppers
Wear sturdy shoes and clothes that can get dirty. We will provide cake and hot drinks but bring water to drink. No experience necessary
What to know
On the day, you:
- The ground will be uneven and may be muddy, sturdy shoes are recommended
