Amersham Band, Rectory Meadow, Amersham HP7 0BU, UK – you must email Wild Amersham to sign up
Come and help plant young native trees together with other volunteers to create a biodiverse hedge for wildlife.
This event is open to anyone who is happy to help; you don’t need any special skills. You need to wear sturdy, waterproof shoes and old, warm clothes.
We will provide tools as well as cake and hot drinks (though if you want to bring a spade or trowel, please do). There are toilet facilities and parking on site (but please walk or bike if you can).
Wild Amersham helps Amersham Band maintain its site for nature. It has helped Amersham Band obtain a gift of 100 native hedging ‘whips’ (young trees) from the Conservation Volunteers.
Hedges give great shelter and nesting opportunities, and their flowers, berries and nuts are a vital food source for invertebrates, birds and mammals. However, over 118,000 miles of hedges have been destroyed in the UK since 1950. Wild Amersham is helping its partners to grow thick and diverse native hedging to help increase biodiversity.
