Earth Day Family Art & Act

Our planet is a beautiful place. It is full of amazing creatures and landscapes that our children will be able to explore and that will sustain them for many years to come.

However, our Earth also needs our help to protect it from all the harmful activities our society brings. This is why on the 22nd of April billions of people celebrate Earth Day to make a stand and show that they care for this, our precious home.

The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970, in Wisconsin in the United States as a national demonstration to raise awareness about environmental issues. Earth Day is now celebrated all around the world.

Why not take a step at home to show you care while getting your creative juices going? Show our Mother Earth some love with one of these ideas:

  • “I LOVE our Earth” pictures. Draw on the floor or a wall your message of “I (picture of a heart) our planet Earth”. Position yourself where the I is and ask someone to take a picture of you. Bring in your family to see how many Earth Day pictures you can make.

  • Chalk Activism. Give the pavement in front of your house some extra colour by drawing your own earth designs and words. It will bring a smile to anyone walking by and you don’t need to clean it afterwards – the rain will do it!

  • Earth Day Photo Frame. Find a big cardboard box (latest Amazon delivery?) and cut a heart shaped hole in the middle so that it looks like a window. Decorate around it and take pictures of yourself and others inside it.

  • Happy Earth Day colouring card. Print a design (there are lots online) and give it your best with your crayons and coloured pencils. Hand them out to your loved ones to spread the message!

  • Earth Day crafting with reused materials. Some ideas are creating an Earth globe made up of coloured tissue, modelling clay, fingerprints or plastic bottle lids. Play around with what you have and see who can create the coolest planet.

  • Try making a Wildlife Documentary. Let your kids use your phone to create a home-made video. Show what you most love about our natural world using live footage, toys or other materials you have around. Why not invent a story set up in nature?
