Chesham Bois is a beautiful ancient woodland brimming with history and biodiversity. It has been enjoyed and used by humans for many centuries. On Sunday 21 April we joined woodland expert John Morris on this walk to learn about the trees and other wildlife, how people used the woods in the past and the challenges of managing woodland today.
John Morris is a woodland expert and engaging speaker and walk leader who has worked in the Chilterns for 40 years offering advice on and assistance with woodland management. He ran the Chiltern Society’s Small Woodlands Project and managed a Test and Trial for Small Woods as part of the Defra research for the new Environmental Land Management Scheme. He now runs his own woodland consultancy business, advising the Royal Forestry Society on the management of Hockeridge and Pancake Woods at Ashley Green, and the Chiltern Society on woodland sites including Captains Wood in Chesham, Bottom Wood at Radnage and Whiteleaf and Brush Hill near Princes Risborough.
This walk was organised by Wild Amersham, part of Sustainable Amersham, a local community group that engages people in the enjoyment and protection of local biodiversity through events and natural sites we help manage. We do not charge for events but to cover our costs politely ask for a minimum donation of £2 if possible.
