On 2nd July Sustainable Amersham screened the People’s Emergency briefing to local business and organisation representatives.
What is the People’s emergency Briefing?
This short film, hosted by Chris Packham, distils the National Emergency Briefing recently delivered to over 1,200 politicians in Westminster. It provides a clear, evidence-based look at what climate and nature breakdown means for:
- health, food security and the cost of living
- national security and the systems we rely on
- what this looks like for communities like Amersham
The pressures of climate shocks and geopolitical instability are already reaching us. As the Mayor of Amersham notes in supporting this event, “Each of us plays a role, whether in our homes, workplaces, or communities.”
Amersham is a resourceful community and, as Covid demonstrated, we pull together well when it matters. This evening gives us the opportunity to gain understanding and plan our next steps together.
How did the event go?
There were over 120 in the room at the screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing Film on 2nd July at Amersham Community Centre. It was great to see several Town Councillors there.
Before the film Martin (Mayor of Amersham) did a great job of introducing the work of Amersham Town Council, alongside our chairwoman MA who spoke about the work of Sustainable Amersham. Bucks Community Energy also spoke briefly at the end.
When they arrived, each person was given a named ‘flag’ and invited to add one thing they are already doing to make a positive difference. The map created a great focus and had lots of poitive feedback.
We’ve had lots of positive feedback, not least from Sarah Green MP who attended the second half of the evening. She loved the map of Amersham and commented on what an achievement it was to get people representing so many organisations in the room.
Sarah Green has signed the Parliamentary Call for a National televised briefing. As ever, great to have her support.
